EAR stands for Export Administration Regulations. The EAR is a set of regulations that are administered by the Bureau of Industry and Security which is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce. These regulations are in place for the national security of the U.S. Items include commercial products, software, and technology that may pose a danger to national security. Export shipments that fall under the U.S. Export Administration Regulations require a license and reporting to authorities prior to shipping.
