Description

This sector specific three-day Chemical Classification Advanced Mini Course provides a comprehensive guide to classifying chemicals under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule. Each day begins with a 20–30-minute e-learning video, followed by ongoing engagement in a discussion community, where students can ask questions and exchange insights throughout the course. Each day concludes with a live interactive session, where Bonnie Kersch answers questions and leads hands-on classification exercises. Day 1  covers the fundamentals, including chemical structure basics, distinguishing organic vs. inorganic chemicals, and recognizing cyclic vs. acyclic compounds. Day 2  explores more complex topics such as heterocyclic rings and modified aromatics. Day 3  focuses on classifying chemical mixtures, equipping students with the tools to navigate real-world classification challenges.

  • Day 2: Advanced Classification Concepts 
  • On Your Own Time: E-learning video on heterocyclic rings, modified aromatics, and more complex topics. (20-30min)
  • 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM CT – Live Q&A and practice with complex chemical structures. 
  • Day 3: Classifying Mixtures 
  •  On Your Own Time: E-learning video on classifying chemical mixtures and key HTS rules. (20-30min)
  • 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM CT – Live Q&A and hands-on classification of real-world mixtures.

By the end of this mini course, participants will be able to:

This course is designed for trade compliance professionals, customs brokers, import/export specialists, and classification analysts who support chemical classification under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS). It is ideal for individuals responsible for determining HTS codes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and managing chemical imports and exports.

Individuals must already be familiar with classifying.

No prior chemistry experience is required, as the course provides all the necessary chemical science fundamentals to classify most chemicals confidently.
